THAW IN THE BOX. ACCUSED MOVED TO SUICIDE BY HIS WIFEJS WRONGS. (Rcc. Jan. 21, 8.59 p.m.) Mow York, January 21. Mrs. Evelyn Thaw gave evidenco describing her life's history, practically in the terms in which she described it •at the last trial. She asserts that Thaw attempted to commit suicide while they wero at Monte Carlo, after her recital of White's brutalities. The merciless cross-examination of Mr. Jerome (District Attorney) reduced tho witness to tears. , At tho first trial accused's wife whispered to counsel the names of persons involved in her story. At one stage accused's counsel asked for public mention of a name. Mr. Jerome, District Attorney, objected, and threatened to have the court cleared. Mr. Justice Fitzgerald finally settled the matter, saying the name , might be given to counsel, tho court, and the jury.
