(by TRLFcnArn—press association.) wanctanul, .Tanua-V 20., The death occurred this morning of an old and well-known .• resident-, Mr. Alexander Higgle, who saw active service in fhn Maori war, and was captain of the Alexandra Cavalry. He was a prominent member of soveral local bodies, and took a keen interest in horse racing, at one. time being a breeder and racing several horses. Auckland, January 20. The Rev. Warbuvton, well known throughout tho Primitive Methodist Church in the Dominion, died this morning. He had beeu ailing for eouic time. An old Crimean and Maori war voteraa, ill the person of Lieut. -William Henry Ilerriiig, late of the 7th Eoyal Fusiliers, died al, his residence, Auckland, yesterday, having passed his 70th year last Thursday, Tho deceased was a native of Choshire. He fought at the battle of Alma, where he sustained a wound, from the effects of which ho never fully recovered, and which ultimately caused his death. For the last six months lie was wholly an invalid. He fought at [nkormanii, and beforo the close of Hie campaign was acting-captain. IJe came to New Zen land forty-seven years ago.
