These miniature carriages are usually so small 'that- 1 tilie'cliil,. ilreii are kept in a sitting times for hours—and frequently are allowed to sleep in them. When tired by "long sitting, and especially during sleep; ■, :'tjie muscles of. the back become 'relaxed,' and' as tho soft yielding bones are left without 1 support, there is, of course, peril of .curvature of tho spino.- Moreover, most o'f-th'e'tnakcs are topless, springloss, and cushionless, • so 'that the constant jarring and jolting%!tho more likely to injure the delicate irierye's of the spiiie. ■ :
These baby carriages are far too popular in Wellington, perhaps because they arfc light and cheap. But tho poor baby I Walking along Wellington shop streets one constantly meets the happy-gb-lucky mother*-who ''saunters along pushing one of these'\'atroc'i'ties, and gazing with interest in thashoplwindows, while her unhappy bahy, looking';m6st:'ftiiserahlo, dangles cold, uncomfortable feet, or sleeps in a tortured attitude. .
