"A MAMMOTH UNDERTAKING."

THE AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT. (UY TIiLKGItAFIl —I'IIEBS ASSOCIATION.) Gisborne, January 20. 11l the courso of an interview, tlio Hon. R. M'Nab said: —Groat as is tlio Agricultural Department now, it will bo vastly greater ten years from now, at the present rate of progress, and will probably require tho energies of a Minister doing that and nothing olso. I do not know of any Department whoso development is increasing like this one, not even excluding tho railways, becauso business with tho latter is simply an addition to volume, whilo tho Agricultural Department adds to its branches. There aro ilino divisions with uino heads under tho Secretary for Agriculture, and they include in tho animal world branches which, in the general administration of tho country, aro controlled by different Ministors, as, - for instance, veterinary corresponds with public health, and has a department of its own. Dairying work, poultry grading, bee-keeping,' and others correspond with trades and customs. It is not possible to contemplate its development even along safe and sound financial lines in future. It is a mammoth undertaking.
