" Water is getting scarce, and tho grass is as dry as hay, and very inilammablo. .Farmers aro unable to get on with their ploughing, the ground being as hard as a pavement. The supply of milk to our' factorios has, so I hear, fallen off to an almost alarming extent, and it has been estimated that if,this dry weather continues for another fortnight tho milk supply will almost cease altogether. We are earnestly looking forward for rain"'
