The average price was about'£23 per acre. The-land is ■ principally grazing ancl dairying country, and is situated 15 to 18 miles from the raiP way line at Feilding," Our special correspondent also telegraphs : -."The Hon. The two estates- adjoin ; eaph. other. - They, are reported to be fine grazing areas,; and axcelleiitly suited for, miscd. farming, splendid crops of grain, roots, and grass being; obtainable. Makonui, whioli was taken ,up by the Hon. John Bryce in its'native state in the early days, was bought under.-the! notice of the Government not long ago by a deputation|'. which urged that jt should bo acquired for settlement. That fact is strong confirmatory evidence of its quality; The' settlement of about thirty families on nearly. ii square miles of highly fertilo .land in the' suburbs of Kimbolton is an event of some importance to the tradespeople of tliat tewnship, and makes a big advance in tho rapid growth of that thrifty locality. Makonui 13 011 the main road from Kimboltpn to b'oilding, and Wharekoa adjoins it..
