A number bf tho friends of the scientists ar.sombled on the . wharf to bid, farewell to tho party. There was a fresh southerly wind blowing, and thb little vessel commenced to set canvas as soon as slio was clear of the breakwater. A fewminutes later the Galilee' had cleared the heads under a cloud of canvas. The Galileo has n long stretch of (iOOO odd miles to cover before she. reaches Callhb, aiid she is expected to occupy about- forty or sixty days on tho passage. She will afterwards proceed to l-j.'iu Diego, and .Sail .Kriilieiseo to complete her cruise. Commander Peters, in conversation with a reporter a few miilutes hei'ore the vessel's departure) said that he aiid his party, had spent a very pleasant .time in Christcliurcli and Lyttelton. Everybody had been extremely kind, aliil he desired to express his great appreciation of the hospitality extended to tho members bf thb expedition.
