This evening the Hon. J. A. Millar will Ic-ave for Dunedin to attend to matters connested with his, own constituency. Ho will also probably visit Invercargill and the Bluff. At Milton he will confer with representatives , .of tho Bruce and Clutha counties on certain aspects of the Harbour Board's Bill. Mr. Ernest W. Hunt, accountant and auditor, of the staff of Barr, Leary, ano Williams, has been in a private hospital for ten days, during which period ho has been successfully operated on for appendicitis. Mr. Hunt is making an excellent recovery, and expects to be about again. early next month. A Press Association from Wanganui' states that the Revl E, Ward, who has been acting vicar of Christ Church, Wanganui, during the past twelve monflis, has been appointed to the charge of the parish of Waerengaapika, near Gisborne. Mr. Ward suceeds tho Rev. Mr. Butterfield, who lias been appointed principal of the Waerangaapika College, i Mr. E. Gohns, of tho head office of tho Labour Department, who has been appointed Inspector of Factories at Gisborne, will leave for that town to-day. Ho was presented yesterday by his fellow-workers with a silvermounted ebony walking-stick. Before joining the Department, about a year ago, Mr. Gohns was secretary for a number of industrial workers' unions in Christchurch. At tho Church of ttie Sacred Heart, Petone, yesterday, the marriage of Miss Alico M. Dyke to Mr. M. O'Sullivan was performed by the Rev. Father Maples. Hutchen, of Wellington, to leave on March 6. Tho annual report of tho Equitable Building and Investment Socioty chronicles tho rotiromont, on account of failing health, of Mr. J. H. Otto Schwartz, who has been Secretary of tho Society for the past thirty yoars. Tho Socioty has mado him a handsomo retiring allowance. Up till three or four years ago Mr. Schwartz was a Wellington identity. Apart from his official duties, which brought him into touch with tho business poople, lie was prominent in musical matters, and, himself a violinist of no ordinary merit, ho» conducted tho Wellington Orchestral Socioty for a timo. Ho has also acted as a judge of band contests, being a pronouncod admirer of brass and military band music. In later years ho has suffered severely, and has never recovered his full health and strength. Mr. Schwartz is being succeeded by Mr. E. A. Liddle, who has practically been performing tho duties for two or three years past to tho satisfaction of the directors.
