Such positions are both agreeable and fairly well paid. , Does the gas company of a town wish to boom its business?' It-promptly sends for a\ demonstrator of the virtues of gas stoves in, cooking. Tho young'woman arrives and a course of free lectures on cooking is announced. They are real lectures, and worth while j hearing, or 110 they laud the advantages, of gas stoves;over old style of coal range. • 'Incidentally, she may be drawing.an extra commission,by.the saie of patent, cake tins', meat grinders, or improved coffee-pots, .made by a.big-house furnishing firm. ..Perhaps a certain corset firm finds trade'sluggish. . _ A .demonstrator to the rescue ! Her coming is heralded in the local newspapers. She will' fit any corset made by "So and So" during her week's visit to the town. Here, is a chance to'buy a good corset and have it adjusted bv an expert; The townswomen find the bait ; attractive, and tho 'storo, the demonstrator, and _'tho manufacturer all benefit. One. girl, tired of teaching drawing in a country town, gave-up her work and became a demonstrator of the drawing system of an. educational publishing house. From county to county she travelled, talking ,at teachers' institutes on art; in the public schools, and basing her talks on the system . she represented. The firm paid her salary, and the county superintendent had added a lecturer to his staff without extra expense. ; I ' :
