MARTINBOROUGH TRADE.
A RAILWAY WANTED. The importance of Martinborough. as a commercial centre is exemplified in ono way in tho amount of wool which passes to the' Featherston railn'ay during the season. The consignments of wool from tho Fcathcrston railway station equal those from Mustcrton. One day recently (writes our Wuirarapa correspondent), thcro were five or six large waggons of wool at Fcathcrston, being made ready for railage to Wellington. The numbor of bales must have been about 400. The railway trade at Fcathcrston makes that station One of the most important on the Wel-lington-Kfipier line—almost on the same footing as \sasterton, which is a- sub-terminal station. Trade generally at Martinborough is growing so fast that the Fcatherston j : County Council is at its wit's-end to keep] tho arterial road in a fit state for traffic. With the 'big bridge over the Ruamabanga River rapidly weakening under the strain of immense loads, some radical- change is necessary. ,- In tho circumstances Slartinborough should have its railway within four years' time.
