CONFERENCE OF NURSES.
Thls suggestion- made in' our columns /yesterday by Nurse Marie Jonassen for the holding'of periodical conferences of nurses is one well worthy the attention of the profession. r i hanks to the excellent courses* of training-pro-vided by the hospitals in the larger centres, and the standard required by the State examinations,. the status of the nurse 5n New Zealand lias been very much improved during recent years. Many reforms;'however, have yet to be made,' and there are many matters —such, for instance, as the training of probationers at,small akd ill-equipped country, hospitals-ethat could be profitably discussed at a con-, ference of nurses. 1 ' Periodical gatherings of the kind would also serve a useful purpose in bringing nurses into touch with the latest developments in nursing methods. At present the nurse who has finished her course of training, and gone either to a country hospital or to take up private nursing on her own account, frequently loses touch with the advances made in the treatment of disease, and the tendency is naturally enough to continue, on' the same old, obsolete lines iii vogue, perhaps," ten oi 1 twelve years ago. We hope that some action will be taken in the direction suggested by Nurso Jonassen.
