New York, January 10. , .As ? result of the decision of the Appellate Court, of California, the ex-Mayor of San Francisco, Eugeno Schmitz—who Was found guilty of civic bribery, and corruption in conjunction with " Boss " Abraham Ruef—has beenreleased from gaol on ball, pending a new trial. ■ (Rec. The . decision of the Californian Appellate- i Court.., in . liberating, Eugene Schmitz and Abraham Ruef, has created an intense and'most painful sensation.' ' ' The' Court declares, inter alia; that the blackmailing of a saloon proprietor is no "jrime, since there; is grave doubt whether "She license is his property/ : London, January 11.
