■ Our, Masterton ' correspondent writes: — Miss Gertie Holloway was .tendered a complimontary social'gathering'last evening by a large number, of-friends. Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.l'.j'presented Miss Holloway, who is .to be married shortly to-the well-known long distance .runner,; Mr. J.- Bradbury, with a set of silver . afternoon tea ware, a silver and glass'epergne, silver bread'fork, and a match holder. A very pleasant gathering was concluded with'.a dance.' '
Last Sunday evening, in the Northland Anglican Church, a memorial service was held for the lato Miss' Hilda Cook, who was drowned while so nobly trying to savo the boy Clapcott, who -is a choir boy in .the church sho attended. Miss Cook was a member of the .choir, a' Sunday school teacher,, and,a.member of the church guild. There was a very large congregation, and the Rev. T. G. Kay preached an appropriate sermon. At the conclusion of tho service the Dead March was played. , '
