Board 1 of Trade, basing its conclusions chiefly on the report of the Board's Trade Commissioner, Mr. R.- J. Jctfray (published yestorday), states that it would bo a serious, mistako on the part of British manufacturers and business men to undcr-estimnto the extent of foreign competition in New Zealand or its possible expansion. Although, British manufacturers may contemplate tho; present position with some, satisfaction,: they cannot afford to relax their vigilance !or bo- lulled into a feeling of security by Now, Zealand's preferential tariff. ■■■'•" The .United Kingdom might supply to New Zealand a few classes of goods which are at, present almost. entirely ' lield by foreign .traders, ' but, excepting certain /American, French, Gorman, and Belgian-.specialities, most of the other foreign goods are cheap lines, which British manufacturers ,-corisider unimportant. .. - '- 1 :
