Suprom'e Court 'returns' show - that "during the last year 39 men arid three' women were indicted, of whom 31 men and one' woman were' convicted and sontcnced. Twenty-five men aud four women wero sent up. from the Lower Court, for sentence. In 1906 the figures wero:—3o nien indicted, 19 convicted, 11 acquitted. Tho increase in crime last year was in cases of theft, and deceit,' the more serious' .class ,of offences being about equal to that of 1906.
