I- saw a, spleiididlookmg paddock-of potatoes, About ,bn acres, m , full flower, with not a miss to be s*en. This is splendid 1 : potato ; landj : and. usually gives good, yields. Mr. C. H. Bennett is . a large grower of. the tuber; and pins his faith largely on the Dakota,. Red./ It- is a variety which seems ,to suit the districts roundi Wanganui, and is planted to a'large extent. When I passed this ii particular plot,'there were no signs, of blight. ; It is, sincerely to be.'hoped that it will escape.. Further down the .country,, near :.Miirton and on' tp -Halcombo,'.very few, apparently, are free- ' la some eases 'the ' potatloes/'were -ijmte; - black. A grower near Marton-told me he: had be-' tweon three and four acres of three 1 varieties' in one; plot—British Queen, Northern' Star; 1 and .Sutton's Discovery. - The first, bvo -are' blighted, but so far. the Discovery 'shows no •sign of disease whatever. - It is. claimed- to v be almost immune
