January 7. Tho Borough Council and ratepayers of Hastings do not intend to sit down tamely, and accept the decision of Dr. Findlay re-, garding tho n oxclusion of that portiott of the' borough (towards Havolock) from Norton and Selwood roads to tho boundary, without protest. ,Tho Mayor (Mr. T. J. Thompson) is forwarding a strong protest to tho Minister against tlio action of his department, and Mr. A. L. D. Frasor, who has large interests in Hastings, has forwarded the following tologram to Dr. Findlay, not in his - capacity as a member of tho Legislature,, but as a ratopayor of tho borough;— "As citizen and ratepayer of Hasting! ' Borough, I strongly urge further consider#, tion before tho area is excluded from the. Borough. Ab you intimated to mo, such a demand woujd require overwholmmg evidence to justify. Wo aro not aware of any such evidence, nor is there a scintilla of evidence to controvert tho grounds of tho petitions sont in by tho Council. I am as» surcd if tho area is excluded great injustice will bo dono to tho Borough." Mr. A. L. D. Fraser has received a tefo. gram from Sir R. Stout stating that tho Nativo Lands Commission will sit at Na- * pier on Friday, February 7, to concludo' matters in connection with tho Waimaram# and other Hawko's Bay lands.
