Mr. J. Strauchon, Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Wellington district, will bo transferred on April 1 to Auckland, where an unusually large quantity of survey work is expected to ariso in the near future. Ho will be succeeded hero by Mr. J. Mackenzie, now Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland. Sir. Strauchon was appointed Acting-Chief Surveyor in Nelson in 1877, Commissioner of Crown Lands arid Chief Survoyor for Nelson in 1891, was transferred to Taranaki in 1893, and received in 1901 his present appointment, in succession to Mr. J. W. A. Marchant, who has been appointed Surveyor-General. Mr. J. Mackenzie, who is a brother of Mr. T. Mackenzie, M.P., was in turn Assistant-Surveyor, District Surveyor, and Chief Draughtsman at Wellington, before his appointment, , in 1002, to tho position whioh he now holds at Auckland.
