' ' Now Zealand will be brought very close tn the Australian, who frequents a certain J Exhibition, in Melbourno this month, .and j afterwards to the Englishman, or Frenchman , who attends the great Franco-British Exhibition, to bo opened in London next May. j They will'view its .scenery, smell its chces®, ana admire its other products, especially • the Englishman and Frenchman, for whom j has been j prepared a greater variety of these sensation's than our Australian brother need • enjoy. The Dominion will bo represented : by a considorablo exhibit at tho Australian Natives' Association's Exhibition,-to be hold " for ono . month in Melbourne, starting on j January-11, and afterwards at Launceston, Tasmania, and possibly by tho largest exf hibit that -has over gone oufcsido this • country, at the gigantic Franco-British uns dortaking; The Australian Exhibition is being held 5 under tho auspices of the Commonwealth s Government, and the New Zealand Govorn--5 went' will occupy 3000 square / feet of space ft r the representation of this country. The Department of Industries and Commerce, of ' which ilr. T. E. Donne is Secretary, has collected tho exhibits, which have now all t been forwarded by successive steamers. The, i Labour Department has contributed photo-) 3 g.'f.phs and charts showing "new chum" im- ; migranls, new chums broken in, model 3 woikrooms, workers' dwellings, growth of 5 industries, and others, .of its concerns; the ! Dfpartment of Tourist and Health Resort l is fitly represented; and thero are numerous - exhibits of tinned moats, jams, biscuits, and 3 confectionery, all grades of hemp and -.tow, butter arid,.-cheese, wool samples, mineral waters,' bottled fruits, pickles, wheat, grass, '" and clover seeds, flour, oatmeal, pumico, funr gus, timbers,' and veneers, etc. , The London Exhibition,' which will inj elude many of the Australian goods, will . be something much moro complete and im- - posing. ' Mr, T. 15. Donne, who has been . charged with the duty of seeing , that this f country.is fitly represented, states that the 5 Now Zealand Court, for which a magnificent ; site,has been secured opposite the Canadian's , Court,, in the very, centro. of the great i building, will havo an area of 6000 square . feet, is early all tlio exhibits, so far pro- , pared, aro . tho property of the Government, 5 but private'firms will also be asked to take i part.iii thq. representation. Howarth,' Christmas, and Hans . iieysen, . tho .well-known. ..Australian , artist, [ will bo shown, 'somo of -which were exhibited . at the Christchufch Exhibition,' and others j obtained by the Dopartment since that date. , Included aro'somo pastel paintings by PcrI rett, mostly of lako scenery. Mr. T. E. . Do'nrio will send as..a private. exhibit 'of his 5 own about fifteen', red deer heads, , arid somo , fallow buck, heads.'. About fifteen wild boar , heads will also be included in tho sports scetion, which it is intended to make specially attractive. At tho St. Louis Exhibition tho Nov/ Zealand forestry exhibit > sccurcd tlio solo gold medal offered, despito tho competition of France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and every st-ato of tlio Union. Tlio series of seven pictures illustrating tho development of bush farming in New Zealand, which attracted ■_ much interest at tho Christcliurch Exhibition, will be on view in London. Tho Now Zealand timbers "will, bo shown in logs, sawn, planed and polished,' varnished and inlaid, and tho other exhibits will includo. wool, in tho balo and in flecces, showing tho different breeds, in grease and scoured, grains of all descriptions, flour and' oatmeal, grass seeds, flax in the balo and loose, including fibres 16 feet in length, canned fruits of all descriptions, canned meats, leather and leather goods, sheep skins, rabbit skins, fro'sh butter and clieeso, butter boxes,' fresh beef, unpolished kauri gum, a display of polished ,gum- forwarded., by -an Auckland firm, and described by Mr. Donno as tho. finc-st display.of tho. kind that has over left Now Zealand:' ' Mr. Donno states that tho oxhibit, as a whole, will be much larger than that which j Now Zealand sent 'to St. Louis.
