TRAMWAYS UNION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the members of the Tramway Employees' Union was held on Sunday, that day'furnishing the only convenient opportunity for a fall meeting. ' . Consideration of the report and balanceliheet for the half-year ending December 31 was deferred until tho next meeting, on February 2, as the services of one of the auditors could not be seemed in time. A notice of motion was tabled, proposing that the Union secede from tho Trades and Labour Council. After some delay in finding a seconder, tho motion received short shrift, being thrown ont by 50 votes to ont. Consideration was given to t.hs matter of a number of employees absenting. themselves from duty on Boxing Day. It wns mentioned that the Union had no power to deal with such cases. It was decided to write to tho Tramways Committee to that c-ffcct, at tho tame time expressing regret that the men had deserted their duty, .and intimating that the Union was prepared to assist-the Committeo in putting a stop to such practices. The following nominations for the election of officers for the ensuing year were received President, Mr. J. C. Moir; vicc-presidenta, Messrs. W. Hilder and A. J. Hills; treasurer, Mr. W. D. Aitken; secretary. Mr. W. T. Young; trustees, Hon. John Itigg and Mr. W. Why to; nnditors, Messrs. A. J. Thomas, J. W. Calligan, and F. W. Whittaker; committee, Messrs. Wyott,,J. Boyle, J. C. Waters, A. Ward, H. Fincham, H. Coombcs, W. D. Wilkinson, J. Maokay, A. L. Huillier; delegates to the Trades Council, Messrs. .T. C. Waters, G. Carnley, H. Atkinson, J. King, H. Coombes, F. C. Jones. An election will take place at a meeting to bo held on February 2. . The Union is now somo-400 strong.
