EXIT SUBMARINE MINERS.
A NEW COMPANY FORMED. , A meeting of No. 6 Company, Now Zealand Engineer Volunteers Submarine Miners), was held at the Drdlshod, Whitmore Street, last evening, when , proposals, tor tlio establishment ot a new corps, to-be known, as No. 3 Company of, Garrison Artillery volunteers (Electric Lighting, Telephoning, and Signalling Corps), were outlined by Lieut.-Ut. Campboll (commanding the Wellington Division of' Garrison Artillery Volunteers), wno presided. There was a liU'ge and enthusiastic meeting of members of the old • bubinanno ■Miuing Corps. Lieut.-Col. Campbell explained the requirements of tho Defence Department with respect to the proposed new corps, and detailed the organisation and duties of the Companv, and also of the .Garrison. Artillery 'Division*; of which it would form a unit. An invitation extended to those present to come forward for enrolment, 1 met with a 'ready response, thirty-." men-, being ..sworn- in— a 'satisfactory proportion.,of .the number required by tho Government. Electric lighting, telephoning, and signalling have not hitherto boon fully represented in the scheme of our harbour defences, and '• the - new corps will supply a valuable unit. for fort-manning requirements. In. connection.-withtho Permanent Artillery's.electric-light section, the new corps will be able to furnish two reliefs for work at tho forts. " There is every prospect- of.- the full strength of -the Company, being, recruited at an. early date. The Company will .parade for inspection at tho Drillshcd on Wednesday west, and thereafter .will hold-irogular . .weekly parades, in preparation for the forthcoming divisional camp to bo held at M'ohanjja Bay in February nest- The -Wellington Division- of . Garrison Artillery now comprises , fo.ur company unitsv viz—The- Eoval New Zealand. A'rtillerv, No. 1 Companv ij.N.A.V. (Wellington MYals),No. 2 Company; G.N'.A'.V. ■ (Petone Navals),'and the new Company.
