TRAGIC ENDING TO A MOTOR CAR RIDE.
A tragic and very remarkable end to a motor-oar ride occurred recently (repor:s a London journal), involving the death of llio chauffeur, and imperilling tho lives of two •' ladies who wore in tho -vehicle. It appears .that Herbert AYinfield, chauft'onr to Mr. W. P. I). Smith, M.P., was driving two ladies in Mr. Smith's car from Marlow to Greenland?. The occupants of the car, when near Greenlands, felt'tho brake applied, after_ which tlic ■ car ran into a fence at the .side ot the ioa*l, breaking tho fence and doing slight dan>nj!J> to the vehicle. Tho ladies, on alighting fn.m tno car, found the' chauffeur dead with !:ia . foot on the brake. Happily the car came to . a standstill at once, and the two ladies •.vero • uninjured. It is supposed that the chauffeur was seized with a heart attack, and, feeling himself unable to go on, jammed the i brake on, literally with hin last' remaining • strength, and died at his post.
