The; Derwent'Hfunter wa!s -ToVmerly known as the North America. She was built in tho United 1 ! States ;in ' 1810 (? ),.; and came to Australian waters in 1859. - She was seriously . damaged in a hurricano oil.the New Zealand coast in 1860y put into Hobart, and has -re*.mauled in the colonial trade ever since.
' There- seems to be no . doubt that the Beautiful -Star, is; thej6tcamcr of! that name , which was taken-over by the Union; Company when the- latter was formed to. acquire the little of a Dunedin shipping company. These two for three steamers formed the nucleus of tha TJnioii;,Company's, fleets and the Beautiful Star was,' therefore, an illustrious pioneer. The dates attributed• to the Derwent -Hunter seem to be incorrect.
