THE WILLESDEN COLLISION.
, Another railway accident—tho third within the last' 16 .days—occurred last even-' ing "at Willesden Junction Upper Level Station, .when an incoming train ran into an engine which' was going slowly, in the opposite direction. About. 5.30, the ,5.5 North. London train from' Richmond to' Broad Street camo 'slowly iiito tho station some ten minutes' lato.'! "A : dense fog prevailed, and tho '.drivor, who had found tlio signals all right, for: his approach, failed to soe in front of him a London and North-Western engine, which was' steaming slowly towards tho. .incoming .traiin. . ' ; Tho collisionvfas not by any means a violent brie,' liiit it was sufficient to derail the Locadon and North-Western engine, which is what is known as a "light engine." Tho first coach' ; of' the incoming train was 'tiro gii'ard's ; van, '/ which was completely wrecked, and tho guard—W. Cook, of Willesdon—was pitched out on to tho ballast. Otherwise, ho must have ■ been killed instantaneously, for tho cuach was smashed into '/splinters; Tho succeeding ooacli was also derailed, and-tho windows woro broken. The remaining coaches ■ remained on tho 'rails-"'•' Th6"'.few"piissengers thoy contained woro thrown violently about,'and had remarkable escapcs. Nono seem to have sustained any injuries, only two—a lady and a gontleman—having complained to tho railway officials of having been severely shaken. • Tho driver and , fireman of both engines remained on the footplato, but were violently pitched against the boiler ends. ■ Thoywero taken to Euston, and conveyed in an ambulance van to tho University College' Hospital.
