SWEDEN AND NORWAY.
Copenhagen, November 12. Tho rumour that the Swedish Minister to Norway has been recalled as tho result of Sweden's oxclusion from tho rocoutly-signed quadruplo troaty guaranteeing tho integrity of Norway is reproduced in tho Swedish nowspapers. It is stated that. M. Delavand was recalled from Christiaim after a confcronco which ho had with tho Norwegian Premier and M. Lovland, tho Minister for Foreign Affairs. Tho rumour, bowover, is entirely unoonfirmed. Paris, November 12. Further enquiries in various official and unofficial quarters lead to the belief that tho
situation is really very unsatisfactory, and that though it is hoped that , some means may bo found to allay the irritation in Sweden, tlio possibility of a serious conflict cannot bo excluded., The actual terms of tlio treaty of guarantee lately signed at Christiania will not be mado public until the document is laid before the respective Chambers, and tho Swedish Legation in Paris, with, perhaps, quostionablo judgment, declinos to givo any information; consequently conjecture has a fr<» field before it.. ■It is known, however, that tho rccent treaty merely guarantees tho territorial integrity of Norway, and contains nothing to prevent Sweden from attacking and inflicting any loss other than territorial that she may be able to on Norway. 1 So long, however, as King Oscar lives it is scarcely likely that .any open collision will occur. Tho diplomatic movo of Sweden in putting her Ministers at Cbritiania and Copenhagen on six months' holiday does not amount to anything like a rupture, and may possibly bo explained later 011 by a desire quietly to make a change in tho representation.)
