' The system of licensing bookmakers,' tried by the Dunedin Jockey Club for the first time to-day, appeared to work satisfactorily, nnd the public, who were laid liberal odds, and could put on ss. without having to make up "dry hash" tickots. The Club also should be -pleased, since £120 was taken in fees, or as good as putting £1200, .through the machine, and saving tho Govornm'ont percentage besides.
