' , The cash office staff of the City Tramways on Christmas Eve presented Mr. ■ J. Callaghan, cashier, with'a set of pipes, Mr. N. Crombie, in making the presentation, referred to the many sterling qualities of Mr. Callaghan, and tho high estimation in which ho was held. Mr. Callaghau replied suitably. ' ■," • Before the departure of tho steamer Manuka from Gisborno on Christmas evening a pleasant little ceremony took placoin tho main saloon, when Captain Phillips presented to Mr. P. Mudio, the popular chief engineer, a handsomely engraved smoker's company, on behalf of himself and his officers and engineers, as a token of their esteem, in vinw of.his transfer to the Marama. : ; On Tuesday, Mr. J. Chapplo, who has resigned from tho office of rato collector to tho City Corporation after thirty years' service, was presented with a pair of • Zeiss binoculars by tho staff. The Town Clerk (Mr. J. 11. Palmer) made the presentation. 'Mi. Chappie leaves on January S for Sydney, en-route to Great Britain, for a twelve months' tour. Ho will bo accompanied by his three daughters.
