THE BANDS.
• -Following their ; usual custom, several bands played carols in the city and suburbs '6n' Christmas Eve and'.Christmas morning. Tho/amounts collected by the various bands are reported to be nearly as largo as on 'previous -occasions, when moro propitious weather was experienced. The Central Mis-sion-Band,' which was divided into two sections, netted in all .£75. The three Salvation Army bands—namely, the Lassies' Band,, the Men's Band, and the South Wellington 'subscriptions toflplling over £20/ :The amounts collected by the Garrison, Battalion, and, Tramways bands could not be 'ascertained; .'but are believed to bo equally gratifying.'',-.' Several private-bands also came out. Carol-singers number compared' with''previous years.'
