Carmichael, President; of-, the Working Men's Club" and Litefary ;: Institute, presented the prizes .won in;-; the Club's . aunual handicap chess and' draughts', tourneys, in the presence of a large number, of members.. The prize-list is as follows:—Chess tourney—B. J. Barnes 1, J Milesi 2, 1\ Bailey 3. J. Morton and J. Kirlcvood;tied for fourth place. Draughts tourney (the.,handicap, in points, being after dach nameV-W. H. Bryant (35), lj J. Oir (30) 2J. Minetti (scr.), 3; Jus. Wilson. (15), 4; C. Roid ..(12), 5; and h\ Bailey, (15),, (i. It was' announced-that tho Club's , chess sides match; "Te Aro v. Rest of tho Club," in which fiftyfour players had been paired, and allowed two months to play their gnni'es, had resulted in, a .comfortable win for tho "Rest of the Club,"-,'who had scored seventeen wins to To AroVtbn: A hearty vote of thanks to 3fr.
