UP-TO-DATE DECORATION.

With the rapid growth of Wellington, tho Empire City,- Messrs. R.. and E. Tingey and Co., Ltd., have realised that the taste for. artistic and modern decorations has increased to such an extent that they have rc-arranged their premises, by moving ■ all their offices from the ground floor to .tho first floor, and putting in a largo, beautifully lighted and artistically decorated showroom. Accepting an invitation from the firm to ono of our staff to view these premises, one's sonsfl of the beautiful was struck at once by the brillianco of the display at the main entrance. The main ceilings have been decorated with various relief materials for which the 1 linn arc agents. Tho ground work'of tho ceilings is of a very high relief pattern of Anaglypta, the stylos worked in smaller patterns. The ceilings arc panelled with corners, panel moulds mid centrepieces supplied by tho Carrara Ceiling Company, tho whole being softly tinted and picked out in colours that harmonise with tho general surroundings, finished off with a touch of gold loaf hero and there. Passing 6ri, one is struck with the beauty of two irchwnys that have been introduced. These iire vory fine pieces of fibrous plaster work which have been decorated in a manner that shows thii firm must have somo of tho best decorators in the Dominion in their employ. The introduction of painted cupids and angels in arches and ceiling centres, gives ono the impression that ho is in tho homo of true decorators. From the main showroom, one passes on to the selecting room._ At first glanco ono would suppnso they had entered the drawing-room of a well-furnished private house, bo tastefully and comfortably is the room arranged. Tho most- important feature is the light, which comes from the coiling through threo largo circular sashes glazed, with figured rolled glass. Tho heavy mouldings surrounding these sashes were made specially to match tho rest of the room. The ceiling hero is of a lower relief, yet panelled out as tho main showroom is. Tho walls have boon papered with a very soft neutral grey, so that patrons may bo able to get the true value of tho colours they are choosing- Tho lounges, chairs, carpets, pictures, etc., have been arranged very tastefully. Tho firm intends a hearty invitation to 'all who love beautiful decorations, to call and see for themselves.
