LAWN TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
LIST. OF-THE ENTRIES. (from our srnciAi, corukspondent. New Plymouth, December 22. New Plymouth is to bo honoured this week with tho. New Zealand Lawn Tennis Championship meeting, when championship events only will be contested, instead of with handicaps also as heretofore. That system was' necessary, of courso, to make the tournaments pay, but now the Association is strong enough to run championships alone. Under this system the champions will not have to wait long stretches for their fixtures, arid will have no trouble in handicaps. Tho elimination of the handicap events has resulted in a diminution in the ontrios, and thoy are slightly under those received for the championship events in Napier, 1903, but there will bo a more representative, gathering of New Zealand's best players than there has been for many years. 'Wilding is one of tho absontccs, and R. Swanston, of Wellington, is not among tho competitors. His loss may bo said to be compensated for by the presence of C. Peacock, ox-champion. Every other player in the Dominion, who would havo the remotest chance of winning tho championship, will he here. Competition among lady players is quite equal to that at the Christchurch tournament. " Entries aro as follow:—Men's singles, 20; ladies' singles, 11; men's doubles, 9 pairs; ladies' doubles, 7 pairs; combined doubles, 14 pairs. C. C. Parker will not play with H. A.
