Dr. Findlay at Rotorua; Hon. G. Fowlds at Auckland; Hon. J. A. Millar at Auckland; and tho Hon. R. M'Nab at Wellington. Mr. F. R. Manning, of Dunedin, returned from London yosterday by tho Paparoa. Mr. R. Speight, Lecturer on Geology at Canterbury College, has beon oloctod a Fellow of the Geological: Society of London. Pastor Sass, a former resident of Norsowood, who das beon living in Denmark for tho past 14 years, is at present on a visit to Dannevirlce. . ■' Mr. W H. Smith, , late manager of To Aro Houso, arrived from London by the Paparoa yesterday, after ah extended tourof tho Old Country. Ono of the earliest settlers in Nelson, Mrs. Hargrcavos, who landed thero. with her parents, tho late Mr. and Mrs. M'Artnoy, in 18-12, died in that city recently. Mr. Turton, tho rccontly-appointcd Magistrate at Oamaru, has beon transferred to Groymouth, to fill tho position rendered vacant by tho removal of Mr. Kenrick, S.M,, to Tuapeka. Tho Bishop of Waiapu hold an ordination sorvico at Te Arai Church yesterday, when Mr. F. C. Long, M.A., and Messrs. Rowiti Kohero, Wi Friday, Rewi and Tawlisti .Hokiera were ordained^
Mr. C.. Studholme, of Canterbury, who has been on a short visit to South Africa, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Paparoa. Mr. Arthur Stubbs, of Dunedin, has been appointed Deputy-Registrar of tho Supreme Court and Cierk of Awards at Wellington, vice Mr. W. A. Hawkins, who has been appointed Registrar at Dunedin. Mr, T. Mason-Chambors, of Napier, who has been on a trip to the Old Country, returned to New Zealand by tho Paparoa, Mr. L. Nelson, of Messrs. Nelson Bros., Napier, was also a passenger by tho same steamer, Mr. G. lli'ssell, who has been with the. Press Association for the past two years, has resigned his position, and is to bo succeeded by Mr Will Kraig, lately of tho • Marlborough "Herald," who takes up his duties at Wakapuaka on December 29. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. ■J. H. Dunn, who have been connected with the Missions to Seamen for some years, were tho recipients of a handsome sideboard presented by the helpers of the mission on the occasion of their marriage. Miss Dement ■ made tho presentation, and eulogistio speeches were made by the missioner (Mr. Jas. Moore), Messrs. E. L. Burgess, J. S. Cummings, and C. Colpus. Tho death occurred last night at the. Wellington Hospital of Mr. Thomas' Nidd, one of Wellington's pioneer settlors. .^Mr. Nidd had attained the ripe age; of 76 years, and had enjoyed good health until'recently i He arrived in the ship Rajah over 40 years\ ago. Ho was well known in business in Wellington for many years, and was always respected for ■■ his integrity of character. He leaves two sous, Messrs. Joseph and, W. Mlean, President of tho Wellington Spiritualists' Socioty, has been'in communication with the National Spiritualists' Association of America, with a view to securing a visit from a firstclass medium. He was, recommended .to; securo Mrs. Georgia Gladys Cooley, one of tho most' distinguished mental mediums in the United States. He entered into nego- ; tiations with Mrs. Cooloy, with the result ■■ that she will arrive in Wellington tomorrow.' Her advent in this city is creating a good deal:of interest in spiritualistic circles. r : Tho Premier, who left for Christchurch on Saturday night to attend, the dedication of a peal . of memorial church, bells to tho memory of the late Mr. Seddoh, returns to Wellington to-morrow morning.'
