DAIRY EMPLOYEES' UNION.

'A'SINGULAR SITUAT ION: ■ The A\'airarapa, M'anawatu, and Bush Districts dairy companies are'at present (writes our Wairarap'a correspondent) in a quandary over the demands of .an. employees' Union, which seems to;be;a' sort of phantom organisation, with '.no' 'settled place, of abode. Some ; time ago, when the Tarahaki employee's were arranging 'their scale of wages' with the.dairy companies.in their -district, the.'ft'airarapa; Maiiawatu,. and- Bush Districts .dairy company representatives.; met at, Carterton, and decided upon a 'rate.'of pay' for their men. There was afterwards a meeting betweenVo'presoh'tatives of the two parties' at Palmerston'North. The dairy/companies, wero [represented by practical men, ■ who knew what they wero talking about. . The . employees' Union had its interests .'guarded by two individuals, who. are stated to know nothing of dairy factory work: At'.the meet-' ing the Union's representatives refused'point blank to accept tlie compromise offered by the ; dairy'companies,'and as they knew absolutely nothing about the subject, and- could afford no ■ information, as to. whoof ,'their humbor'knew'anything, there was a deadlock. It is considered..by the p dairy'--com-panies that thero is a lot; of unreality beyond the name'in ,tho mystic, seven who are said to'compriso- the Union.
