BOAT RACE
The first of an annual sories of boat races between the Wanganui Collegiate School and Wellington College excited groat interest on tho harbour yesterday afternoon. When tho crows left the Star Club sheds at 5 P-m. a crowd of five or six hundred people had gathered at tho various points of vantngo at the finishing point, and tho Duco and Admiral, which followed tho race, had their quota of spectators. Tho AVanganui boys wero much bigger than their opponents, averaging list. Bib. to tho local boys 10.it. Some delay was caused at the start by Fell, tho Wellington stroke, breaking his oar. On rc-startmg, the Wanganui crew got tho water first, and wlion 100 yds. had been traversed drow clear. Rowing with a long steady swing, they gradually increased tho lead, and eventually won by five or six lengths. The Wellington boys mado a dotormined effort to got up- at tho three-quarter mile, but tho rally was only momentary, and thereafter it was apparent they wero a beaten crew. Tho crows were:— Wanganui—Morison '(stroko), Rutherford, Chamberlain, and Parker. Wellington—Fell (stroke), Burnott, Stout, and Bonnett.
