TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.

The -weekly meeting of the Trades and ■ Labour .Council was- held in' the Trades Hall last, bight. There was a large attendance of delegates, Mr. Parlane presiding. Mr. .1. A. Ota go Council, were present; and received the cortplirficnts of the local Council. „ A long discussion ensued over'the-laxity .of the Labour Department witli regard to the ad- ; ministration of the.Shops and Offices ...Act, and the various awards. - Special reference was; ■' made. to breaches of the Act ■ which ; were = alleged to have • been committed by master •/' iiutehors .in the country, and hotelkeepers in Wellington. and also to the fact that, tho Do- • partmont, bad not taken decisive .steps .to. enforce upon employers the sanitary clauses of . the different' building traded aiyiirds.
