Deo. 19, 10.5 p.m.) Sydney, Decomber 19. Mr. Hoskins, in addition to . taking Mr. Sandford's place at the Bank,, pays Mr. Sandford £10,000 cash and gives him promissory ■ notes for £40,000 negotiable immediately. Mr. Hoskins also pays off Mr. Sandford's creditors to tho extent of £26,000. Mr. William Sandford has received unlimited praise for his •. pioneer work in the huge undertaking which has now got beyond his powers of .private flnahco. According to' an Australian contemporary, he came to Australia in 1883 as tho representative of Cohn, Lysaght, Limited, and was present whou the first plant for making wire-netting was started in Australia. On his own behalf, he started at the Eslcbank works (Lithgow), the first, mill for making sheet-iron, and galvanising and corrugating the same. Ho also introduced into Australia' tho first Siemen's open hearth steel furnace. Messrs. Q. and C. Hoskins, according to the same paper, have boon using Lithgow pigiron for cast-iron pipes for water-convoyance purposes. ■ .
