Auckland (Dr.* Neligan) left yesterday with ■ his wife and family for England, where he will, attend the .Lambeth Conference of Bishops. During his stay'at Home, Dr. Neligan expects, from arrangements that have already been - made, to .be kept busy speaking and preach- | ing in London and other parts of England. Mr, Herbert Gaby, who recently disposed of his interest in the Star Foundry at Nowtown to Messrs. C. J. and W. M'Keegan; of 'Wellington, intends to take a trip, to England early nest year. Mr.. Gaby has" for; a long time been regarded as tho father of ' engineering in Wellington. Whether that is so or not, ho can, and does, lay claim to having a long and interesting careor in connection .with engineering and commercial matters in Wellington. He first arrived in Wellington on November 12, 1857 — fifty years : ago—and, after a few years spent in Welling-' ton, ho bccamo tho pioneer uf tho sawriiiiiing industry in tlie I'elorus Sound, whoro ho set up an engine and plant specially imported from England. Ho continued the 1 business until 1870, when ho wont Homo. Returning about Christmas time of the same year, he ; initiated'candle and soap works at Newtown (on the same section now oocri- , pied,by tho foundry), at tthich. timo—one of I great depression—there wore not more than n dozen houses erected on tlie south side of 'tho Basin Resorvo.
