HEAD-DRESSES FOR BATHERS.
Of such an addition to a bathing toilette many things arc required, the two principal being to protect the hair and to be becoming. Our American cousins at thoir fashionable resorts have turned the Bandanna handkerchief to very good account. They fold it crossways, then bind it round the head, so that it is tied either in an Alsatian bow or a bandanna knot; occasionally it is placed like a gipsy, with the ends hanging at tho back; these are apt , to get very wet, especially when bathing. Occasionally' these handkerchiefs aro used larger, bo as
to cover the swimming cap, and they are also so arranged that they form two hows at the side, after the mode of nn indiarubbcr cap, ami an oil silk, one is not all you can wish for; but. some of tho bathers never wet their heads at all, and tlieso often indulge in hats.which protect tho face from sunburn. Tho swimmer very much affects these silk handkerchiefs, with which neither the winds nor the waves interfere. Thero is an art in.tying the knots, and the bathors have.a choice of colour. The caps are to bo bought ready made, and occasionally a fringe of artificial curls is sewn round tho edgo. - It is very bad for the hair to get wet with sea water, so it is wise to prevent it as much as possible; l>ut when it is wot shampoo it with, soap and.water and rinso it well. 1 Ammonia 'or. bicarbonate of soda in the water helps to remove the stickiness of the salt; never, put soap on the hair itself, but prepare a good lather. Somo bathers are content to brush the hair well till it is .dry, and this is very good for the head, especially if the bather can sit in the sun for somo time and let the air permeate her .tresses.
