—: ,' : $ ' ■ ' LIEUT. SHACKLETON EXPRESSES HIS ' " THANKS. " (UV TELEGRArH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.), Christchurch, December 17. Lieut. Sliacklcton is delighted with the news that the Government will give 0110 thousand pounds for the Nimrod expedition. He asks that the following message be conveyed to Now Zealand: — I find groat difficulty in expressing my feelings. lam deeply impressed with the practical sympathy your Dominion has shown in the expedition. We are lifted from bedrock to a position in which our finances arc sound and satisfactory. It is not so much the monetary gift that delights me as the mminor in which sympathy has been expressed. I feel that tho Dominions oversea have given a lesson to tho 'Old Country, . whoro tho apathy displayed is in marked contrast to the practical in- , tercst shown by New Zealand and Australia.
