Seatoun was in very festive mood yesterday, when the tramway tunnel was formally opened by Mrs. G. Crawford, Mayoress of Miramar. Two car-loads of people, went out from, town to witness the ceremony. It cannot be claimed that the trip is an exciting one, but a moment of. excitement came when tho mouth of the new tunnel was reached,' 1 and one could see beyond tho dark blue waters of the harbour. One has the idea that from here tho road must plungo madly down towards the sea, but the descent is really very mild, and the sight of it is calculated to fill tho most timid mind with confidence. Mr. and Mrs. 11. P. Rawson had kindly placed their beautiful garden at Seatoun at tho disposal of the Mayor and his guests, and there tea" was served in .a large marquee erected on tho lawn, under the direction of Mrs. Fabian. Afterwards the visitors yandered about and admired tho flowers and picturesque nooks in tho grounds. Mrs. C. Crawford, who carricd a beautiful bouquet of flowers presented to her by littlMiss Molly Fabian, on behalf of the Seatoun residents, wore a charming frock of jialc blue silk, trimmed with very narrow black ribbon and rulllcs of Valenciennes lace. With this she wore a black picture hat'. Mrs. Rawson wag in a blue coat and skirt, with black hat; Mfss Rawson, in pink linen pinafore frock, with white blouse and white floral Hat;"airs. Hislop, in black with a white boa; Mrs. A. Crawford, in purple coat and skirt, with a white feather boa; Mrs. Godber, black silk; Mrs. J. P. Luke, dark green,coat and skirt with embroidered ' trimming; Mrs. Cohen, black canvas with under bodice of lace and floral silk; Mrs. Seaton, grOy, costume. Among the guests were also Mesdames Hales, Wilson, .Geddis, Hawson,' Patrick, -Gibbs, Ogilviu, N. Gibbs, Stitchbur.v, Redwood, Hickson, Gillespie, Lucas, Henderson. < :f : be'rt,"Cole, and Cramond, and Misses S.oaton and Lockio. .

On Monday afternoon Miss C. Beauchamp gave a' girls' tea for Mrs. Macgregor, who is-spending a few days in "Wellington. Miss Beauchamp wore a pretty blue silk frock, Mrs. Macgregor was in dark blue taffetas and plumed hat; Miss Ward, white with rosetrimmed hat; Miss Dean, heliotrope, with floral hat; Miss Simpson, pale blue, and Miss H. Miles, white muslin and floral hat.

Announcement is made of the engagement of Miss Elsie Rawson to Mr. "William Wood, barrister, of the firm of Carlilc, 'M'Lcan, and Wood, Napier.

Miss Kathleen Beauchamp returned last night from' a delightful month's visit' to Rotorua.

Yesterday afternoon a new ladies' tennis court was opened on Clifton Terrace, and among those present wero Mrs. Simpson, Misses Stafford, Russell, Ewen (2)', Simpson (2), and Griffiths.

Lost, Saturday Mrs. B. Tonks;'gave , a " Knick-Knack" tea at her home in Melrose, in honour of Miss May Toriks, who is to be married shortly. A number, of presents, useful, pretty, and amusing, were received, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Songs were given by Mrs. J. Carr, and the Misses Head, Matthews, and Churchward, while Mrs. Sutcliffe, and Miss.Arnold gave recitations. .

' Our Levin correspondent writes -.—Mrs. J.' G. Hankins left Levin on Monday for "Wellington, where she is going to stay for a few days with her mother, Mrs.. Hickson, of Tiriiikori Road. Mrs. Hector Davidson, of Pahihtua, paid a short visit to Levin last week. Mrs. G. Potts has just returned to Levin from .tho Wairarapa, where she has been staying with' friends.'"Mr. Hickson, of the Government Service, is at present spending part of his holidays in Levin. Mr. , and Mrs. Gibbons, who are well-known in social circles in Levin, left for "Wellington yesterday, where thoj; are- staying for a week or ,so prior to'their taking up their abode in Hawke's Bay. Both will bo greatly missed by a large, circle of' friends. <• /
