'Lube,' Chairm-n of the Technical Education Board. - Mr. William Allan, a, member of the Board, was also;present. .There was a large'attendance of-parents and. friends; "Mr. Aitken apologised for the unavoidable absence of'Mr; J. 1.. Luke, who had been called -to Auckland on . •.important business. • The Technical School, he said, ' was a great boon: to ilio hoys and girls, of Wellington. . The institution had at its .head, as director, a man "ho }i'a«-;scc.ond ■ to -none in a. similar position in the Dominion. He was supported, by an able and, efficient staff, and conibinedly and tfjiitcdly they were able to give great sat.isj faction to the Board, the parents, aiid the students of: the day and evening -classes; .Mr.. AV. S-La Trohe, director of .the.school, iri-a-short address, reviewed, the. work of the past twelve, months. The year had been a record one, there' having been over 1000 students ori the- roll 'of the school. - There had been steady development in all branches of "thq school work. .'At 'the' Christchureh Exhibition, out of 160 entries of .exhibit's, 7.1. ;had secured awards.. Later, at Pnlaierstoii N.ortli they had received 99' awards out of 220. onirics.. •, The exhibits at the latter place, had been,considered by the examiners t'p.he. in advance of those exhibited at .the Chnstehurch 'Exhibition.' ' Referring to the "question "of" extension of buildings . and , site, the speaker said that under present • conditions - tho 'school might be .said.to.be satisfactory; - The : buildiiigs;aiid fittings had' been improved at a cost of £i 60 0; during 'the' present' year. Various neiy;.; classes nad beon established—domestic economy, jewellery, enamelling, and? other branches of applied art. For. really . good work, 'however,, it iva.s'- necessary that the present accommodation bo considerably increased,'.and if, expansion were dqsired a fresli; and ample site : must bo provided.
