BOOKMAKERS' CONFERENCE. SCALE OF LICENSE FEES SUGGESTED. . (BY TELEGItAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, December 16. A conference of accredited delegates from bookmakers in tho four chief centres of the Dominion was held mi. Saturday evening, for tho purpose of framing proposals for the regulation of bqpkmakers under the Gaming Act, to be submitted to the Racing Conference, which will hold a special meeting to consider the. subject on January 23. _It has been officially suggested to bookmakers'"fliat they should submit, their" proposals at-: an early (Into and reinforce them by a deputation to'the conference. • After a Ion" discussion, it was decided to submit the following proposals to the conference : —License fees. —(1) Clubs giving less than £750 a day in stakes, £5 per day inside, £2 10s. outside. ,(2) Clubs giving £7rio and less than £1000, £7 10s; and.£3 ; i/ss. (3) Clubs giving £1000 and less and £;). (4) Clubs giving £looo'a' flay and less than £2000, £ly and £7 10s. (5) Clubs giving £2000 per day and over, £20'and:£10. (6) Annual licenses, to •■bo - granted by ;tho. undermentioned clulJs. at-tho ■ following 'rates, to bo paid half-yearly, in, land, £150 inside, £75 .outside; .Wellington, £125 arid £62 10s.; aiKl £75; Dunedin, £100 and £00. Each bookmaker to bo allowed one clerk without additional fee; bookmakers.awLdbYks'to'.bo registered by the, Metropolitan' Club of thci district in which they reside, on payment'of a t'eo of £1. Is. and the names to bo published in ail official calendar. In a case of partnership, one member of a firm will bo eligible to act as clerk. Conditions, of. registration are to be uniform throughout New Zealand and arranged by a conference. Registered bookmakers to be allowed "on ""coufscs~fOf which they do not apply for a licotisc on the same terms as the public. Bookmakers to bo allowed-a reasonable position in which to bet, and such position to bo defined "by"'posts"free from fences and other cnt.angloments. When not engaged in carrying on their calling, bookmakers to bn allowed-'a]l; privileges conceded to the general public. , ' These proposals will be submitted with a view to being put into operation for one year.
