LABOUR CONDITIONS.
AN OTAGO PLEBISCITE.. The North Otago Farmers' Union are taking a plebiscite of every farmer in North Otago on two matters of considerable interest to that district. The questions asked are: (1) whether the rate of harvest wages this season is to be 10d.- or Is. per hour (and found), find (2) what system of employing threshers shall be In -' regard to the latter question it appears Otago atid Canterbury havo two distinct systems, the crops in Canterbury being threshed by contract. The desideratum in North Otago', it is pointed out,' is-to have one universal system. ■ Next season it is ■expected the matter will- be decided: by arbitration, but until this-comes- about-it. is considered that a uniform'• rate of .wage; -and the one-, system' 1 of employment,- .should prevail throughout tho district:- •
