The Brigade received a call by telophone at 2.14 a.m. yesterday to an outbreak of fire at No. 4 Home Street (off Kont Torraco), in a two-story nine-roomed houso occupied by Mrs. Kathleen Kerr (and used as a private hospital), and owned by Mr. Jones. A room on the ground lloor, n bedroom on the first iioor, and the passage and stairway wore severely damaged by fire, and the rest of the houßo suffered through heat and smoke. The contents of the bouse were insured in the State Office for £250. Mrs. Kerr had a narrow escape. Prior to the arrival of the Brigade, sho and a man named George Sinclair had taken to the roof owing to the stairway being on fire, and bad to bo assisted down ladders by tbo Brigadcsmeu.
The St .Pnncras Borongh Council decided to ask the Local Government Board to allow them to dispose of tho site which was acquired by the late Progressive council for a central library. Mr. Carnogio offered to subscribe £40,000 towards the cost of the library.
Itobert J. Dnylo, trainmaster of the Monongahela division of tho Pennsylvania Railroad, fell in love with the voice of Jlis; Agnes N. Nolan, the operator at the switchboard through which ho talked over the telephone. He courted her, proposed to ber, and was acoopted over the we. ■
