SOCIAL AND PERSONAL.

On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Isaac held a reception at her home in Percival Street, in colouration of the confirmation of her son, who received many handsome presents from friends both hero and abroad. Tea was served in tho dining-room at many small tables, each decorated prettily with sweetpeas, and in- this room a pianola discoursed cheerful music. In another room a delightful programme was contributed by Mrs. GloverEaton (with a violin accompaniment by Miss Ireno Morris), Mesdamcs Russell and Wilson, and Misses Parsons, Newman, A. Komber, and Cullen. Mr. J. Clarke gave a recitation, and several selections were played by a string band. Mrs. Isaac wore a charming frock of black chiffon taffetas, draped with Brussels point, and with this sho wore some lino diamond ornaments. Her two nieces, the Misses Levi, were in pretty frocks of black crepe do chine with black sashes; Mrs. van Staveren wore a blue floral silk, and black chiffon taquo with plume; Mrs. Walter Nathan, dark blue costume, with vest of lace, ostrich feather boa, and bluo hat; Mrs. Jacob Joseph, black frock with touches of cream and palo blue, and Dolly Varden hat; Mrs. Macarthy, white and black silk frock, and hat trimmed .with roses; Mrs. Macdonald, black lace over white chiffon; Mrs. Parker, blue cloth costume, with collar and cuffs of moss green velvet, and pale blue plumed hat; Mrs. Stevenson, claret coloured voile over silk, black hat with high crown trimmed with a mass of roses; Mrs. Wilson wore a frock of broderio Anglaise, with white picturo hat; and Miss Parsons was in white muslin; Miss Miles wore a blue checked taffetas, with big hat trimmed with pale blue plumes: Mrs. Kember was ill tabac brown silk, with hat to match; Miss Kember, white embroidered muslin; Mrs. Jaggar, grey checked silk, • made pinafore fashion with lace blouse,-and small black and white toque. Among the other guests present wero the Hon. i'revor Grant, Rabbi van Staveren, Dr. M'Arthur, and Messrs. Poynton, Macarthy, Newman, Myeni, and Thomas. There was a pretty sceno in Mrs. Hislop's garden on Saturday afternoon when the Kia Ora Centre of tho Girls' Realm Guild held thoir Handkerchief Fete. There wore stalls for the sale of flowers, handkerchiefs, toys, sweets, ■ and afternoon ten, ieach under the care of girl's' picturesquely at*ired in whiti , muslin and frilly purple hats made very daintily out of crepe paper, purple and \vhit< being the colours of the Guild. The. list of stall-holders is as follows: —Handkerchief stall, Misses Ashbolt, Young, M. Young, and Kean; sweet stall, Misses I. Neweuham and 0. Chapman; llowers, Misses It. Marloy, E. Bull, and G. Newonham; afternoon tea, Mrs. C. E. Stevens and Misses Stevens, Truman (2), Prendevillo, and Chapman. The toy stall was under tho chargo of Miss Tnvondale, and the Misses Young and Morris were gatekeepers. A toy competition was held, when nil competitors were asked to bring tho best selected toy or toys to be had for threepence. The first prize went to a girl who hml brought a shaving set, including an upright locking-gass, but, fortunately for the possessor, not including a razor, and the winner of the second prize had brought a mininture miner's outfit. A feature of the exhibition was the collection of thirty-six dolls' made out of threepence-worth of clothes-pegs. During the afternoon a girls' orchestra from Wadestown provided excellent music in the draw-ing-room. The Guild girls lire to be congratulated on tho success of their undertaking, which resulted in £13 2s;

On Saturday afternoon there was. a very pleasant garden-party at the residence of Mr. It. Keenc, Island Day, in aid of the Primitive Methodist Home Missionary Fund. A number of people went out from town. A harpist played to those on the terrnco by the house, and the charms of the beautiful garden were supplemented by the tennis court and croquet lawn. ■'■'■■.'

Dr. Winifred Bathgato, of Duncdin, is paying a short visit tn Wellington, and is the guest of Mrs. Sliaud. v Mrs. Ncligan (wife of the Anglican Bishop of Auckland) was tlio recipient nf a handsome presentation last Tuesday afternoon from the r.L-mbers of the Mothers' Union and Girls' ■•Vic-ndly Society of Auckland, North Shore, Onehimga, and Whangarei. Several ladies xaited on hoi- at Bishopscourt, anrl presented her with a beautiful blotter or letter-case, the outside covers being of New Zealand -.roods and tho inside being lined with Russian leather. A strap-pocket'contained a greenstone paper-knife, mounted in gold, with Mrs. Xeligan's initials, and a greenstone pen■lolder, also mounted in gold. In addition, i handsome greenstone paper weight accompanied the blotter. On an outside corner was i. triangular gold plate with the inscription, "To Mrs. Ncligan, from members of the U.U. and G.F.S., Auckland, 1907." Mrs. Xeligan expressed her thanks in feeling terms.
