MASTERTON A. & P. ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of tho general committee of the Mnstcrton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon. Mr. J. D. Cruickshanks (president) occupied the chair, and thero was a largo attendance of niombera. A letter was recoived from Captain Gathorne Hardy, private secretary to His Excellency the Governor, acknowledging tho Association's invitation to tho annual show, and stating that tho Governor wotud very much like to be present, but would bo unable to say if Her Excellency, would also ]jp present. In any case, a reply to tho Association would be forwarded the second weds in February. Letters wore received from a number of machinery firms stating that it was improbable that they would bo exhibiting at tho February show. Miss Jessie Campbell, of Brunswick, Wnnganui, wrote offering a special prize of two guineas for tho best lady rider under 18 l yoars, who may be called upon to jump over a hurdle. An anonymous writer also wroto offering a special prize for tho best horsewoman, sido-saddlo or reform dress, competitors to walk, trot, or canter over a- zig-zag course, and jump a hurdle. The Association accepted Miss Campbell's offer, subject to deletion of the proviso referring to tho jumping, tho Wairarapa not being a hunting country; and it was decided to allot tho anonymous writer's donation to the class for the best lady rider. Tho Association further decided to make a five-guinea donation for tho best lady rider in reform dress. On the motion of Mr. G. Summcrell it was decided to add two classes in tho farmers' sheop section for competition for the Thomas and _ Cook Cup,, the conditions being (hat entries are to bo restricted to long-jvoolled crossbred owes, breed to bo stated. Tho trophy is to bo won twico in succession, or throe times at intervals. Eight new members wcro elected, bringing tho total momborship up to ovor 800. Permission was given to Messrs. Abraham and Williams to hold a sale of stud stock on behalf of Mr. W. Perry on Monday, February 17. The treasurer reported that tho expenditure for-the month bad been £G2 19s. lid., and tho receipts £59 lGs. Tho general account showed a debit of £747 13s. 4d. Preparations wore made for canvassing tho district and Wellington'for donations of "prize nionoy for the show. A list handed round' amonest tho members present realised. close on £50, with more to follow.
