! MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly mooting of tho Wellington Education Board was hold yesterday, there boing presont:—Messrs. Robort Loo (chairman), J. G. W. Aitken, M.P., William Allan, A. H. Viio, W. C. Buchanan, J. Kol> beli, and Captain M'Douald. THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT. Tho following accoiihta wore roportcd to bo in credit: —Geuoral account current, £553 ,19s. 9d. ; tcchnioal account, £66 155.; manual and technical .account, £262 14s. 6d.; teachers'- salaries account, £279 13s. Id.; deposit account, £19 6s. 6d. Total amount in credit, £1182 Ss. 10d. Accounts showing debit balance —Buildings account, £984 10s. Id.; secondary account, £17 17s. 9d. Total amount in debit, £1002 7s. lOd. The credit balance standing to ? tho credit of tho,Board on December 12, 1907, was, therefore, £180 Is., as against £896 19s. Bd. on November 21, 1907. The contract liabilities, including building sites, amounted to £3595 175.; works, etc., authorised in addition to those on September 30, £3028 13s. 4d. Tho pay sheet, to £7023, and amounts in respect of general and technical expenditure, totalling'£l293 10s. sd.j were passed for payment. The receipts sinoo last Board meeting-afaiounted to £7596 9s. Id. The financial report was adopted. I'INANCE AND WORKS COMMITTEE. The following i recommendations of . the .Finance and Works Committee were adopted:—l. That, grants for repairs be mado in respect - of the undermentioned schools: —Mauriceville, shed, etc.; Mangatainoka, repairs to roof and fencing; Hastwell, ilooring i;? Korora, re-arrangement of stove, at residence', Rakaunui, fencing repairs ; Cross Creek, vorandah, and fencing at residence; Reikiorangi, metalling; South Wellington', raising sheltor shed; 'Ponatahi, new tank'; Carterton old school, painting inside; South Wellington, hyloplate round central hall, committee contributing £50; | Opaki, the present wiro fence to be put in order .in place'of erecting additional picket fencing. 2. Applications for residences — Ngaturi, approved: ICorokoro, declined. 3. , That separate tenders be invited for the lease of —'I'own acre' 1065, six years; town aero 1073, six years; Hutt old residence site, five years. 4. Pahiatua —That purchaso proceed when ; dedication and formation of road are ccrmplctcd; Te Ore Ore —That the offer, of an area of 1 aero, 0 roods,' 6 poles adjoining the school site, bo accopted, contribution of £30 being promised by the Te Ore Ore Trust; the Department to be asked to provide the . balance; ; Waikanae—That sections 17 and 18 be recommended to the Department for purchase at £120; Maku — The CommiUbo tecbriimended that a new site of two acres be purchased for £20 at Waihi -Manuhara Junction, for the re-orection of the school which is to be removed from ' Maku. It was-rosolved that the .area should lie increased to four acres, providod that a suitablo section at a reasonable price were available, ' ' . GENERAL. . . Mn.ranui ;school .site—Tho committee appointed to doat-' with .this matter, reported tliat. it had been arranged, with Mr. H. Crawfort! for tho purchase for £1000 of sections 7-1 to. 70 inclusive, adjoining sections 72 and 73 presented by Mr. Crawford. Tho area is nearly 1 \ acres. It was resolved to. acquire the land on the terms named. Tho report of the sub-committee sot up to re,vise tho Board's regulations was held ' over if or a future meeting.' . •
Tho monthly reports of the Inspectors of Schools, Instructor in Agriculture, and the Clerk of 'Works were adopted. .Reference to tho Inspectors' report on advanced sewing; and the Truant Officer's report appears " elsewhere." : . Correspondence—l. A letter was received from the Government;. notifying that it was prepared to make a grant in respect of a caretaker's cottago .at the, College. SJ., From the Education Department acquiescing in tho Board's request for a grant of £40 for gymnasium appliances "at the Training College.) 3. A copy of the King's Proclamation of Dominion Day, suitable for circulation among the schools was received from the Education Department. 4. An application was received from the Te Horo School Committee for a vehiele to be provided for),the conveyance of nineteen children. It was resolved- that application ,be made to the Education Department for tho cost of a ■vehicle.' 5. A letter", from tho Mount Cook School Committee with reference'* to the .Corporation pound at Mouijt. Cook was referred'to the City Council. School District' Boundaries—On the motion of Mr. J. Keboll, it was decided that tho boundary between tho Ohau and tho Muhnnoa School Districts be as follows:— Commoricing at a 1 point on tho northern boundary of the present Ohau District where the Arapaepae Road-intersects it, the centre of the said road to be followed to the Mu- ' hnnoa East Road, thence along the boundary between sections 36 and 36a to the Ohau lliver; thence in a straight line to the southern boundary of the school district. Consideration of the question of school district boundaries at Carterton And Clareville ■was postponed. ' '
