THE PIG MARKET.
SATISFACTORY FOR FARMERS. '■ From inquiries which have boon made by our Wairarapa correspondent, it appears that those farmers who are going in for Big-breed-ing may congratulate thomselves that they will liavo a very good seasou. There is, at the . presont time an unprecedented demand for bacon, and firms find difficulty 'in supplying orders. There are practically tnree bacon-curing firms operating in the Wairarapa, and two of these are also in active competition in Manawatu,' Wanganui, and Taranaki. The result is tnat prices are Higher by a halfpenny a pound than thoy wore at the corresponding time last year, and it is improbable that there will be any fall in the market. So far the quality of the stock which has come along to the factories is very good, and few animals have been condemned for tuberculosis by the Government inspector. Tho number 'was five at the Woodvillo works last month. Managers are keen in impressing upon farmers the necessity for topping off the pigs well, just as the sheep-farmer does his freezers.' Too_ much skim milk diet is condemned, and, if persisted in, will only bring about a'fall in prices through poor quality, while there will be less, chance of pigs being able to stand up against the ravages of disease.
