Ingredients.—2 cups of finely-shredded whitehearted cabbage, 1 cup of chopped cauliflower, J cup of shredded carrot, I cup of shredded turnip, 1J cups of chopped onion, 1 cuj of 'chopped celery, or some colory seeds, salt, pepper, 2J tablespoonfuls of buttor, 2 quarts of water, i thin slices of bread and butter, brown sugar. Method.—Cook tho shredded vegetables for fifteon minutes in the butter without browning thorn, , and then add the water, salt, pepper, and about half a tablespoonful of brown sugar. The celery seeds are tied in a piece of muslin, and are a splendid substitute for celery. Next add the water and boil the soup for about an hour with tho lid off the saucepan. Brown the bread nnd butter in the oven, and put it into tho soup tureen. Pour the soup on to it, and then servo it at once. Any frosh vegetables may be used in this soup. ' TO-MOIiROW. Ingredients.—Boiling fish, peas, potatoes, pastry, four eggs, cornstarch, one lemon, halfpint of milk.
