A 2ft. 6in. gauge track, with no ramifications or side lines, is recommended, with a rolling-stock of 19 cars and trailers, giving a speed of Jo miles an hour for a passenger service. The capital expenditure is estimated at £119,071), the revenue at £18,535 per annum, and the expenditure, including ■capital charges, .-it £17,451, leaving a profit ol £1354 for depreciation. An alternative scheme as far as Aurora Road (14 miles) would cost £09,987, and. leave'a yearly profit of £1904.- Kaponga could be supplied with light and power at a cost of £1710, and Opunako at a' cost of £1670. It would be impossible to supply power and light along the'route or to Eltham. There is a separate schemo to light Eltham at a cost of £74G5, and an estimated profit of £503 per annum. - A meeting of delegates of. the Iccal bodies interested in the tramway proposals was hold to-day, and the report was referred back to the bodies interested for discussion. v Delegates from Opunake expressed the- opinion that, while the town of Opunako would rato itself, Egmont County, as a whole, was .nt in favour of tho scheme. In'the event of Egmont County refusing to join it is probablo the Eltham County Council'will construct tho line as far as Aurora Road and secure permission to carry tho. }ino right on to Opunako over the Egmont County Council's roads if circumstances warrant.

THE HON. G. FOWLDS IN AUCKLAND. • INFIRMARY WARD OPENED. Auckland) December 9. The Hon. George Fowlds, in his capacity as Minister for Public Health, inspected tho n&w works at the District Hocpital to-day, and received full information as to the various buildings now in course of construction, as well as further details of tho schomo of operations now being carried into effect. This afternoon tho Minister' opened tho new infirmary ward at the Costley Home, afterwards catching tho train for the Waikato in order to proceed overland.to Wellington. Mr. Fowlds will return to Auckland before Christmas, and on December 27 will go to Rotorua in order to spend a short holiday. CHARGE OF BREAKING AND ENTERING. . Auckland, December 9. Whito gavo two school-girls, a rido on his horse, which broke into a sharp canter, and threw .them on the road, ono girl, Lucy Goldfinch; sustaining a fractured'skull'and subsequently dying. I'lorenco B arndale. a married woman, aged 30, appeared in tlio Police' Court to-day, charged with having murdered her infant child, Marion Farndalo, whose headless body is alleged- to-havo been found in the harbour recently. Accused was remanded for eight days. ' Accused has stated that she is the wife of a medical man in the Congo. Her father is said to be a resident of the Waikato.
